Things To Consider In The Price Of Your Furnace Replacement

When it comes to replacing your furnace, there are many key factors to consider, including your budget and the price. Sometimes furnaces break suddenly and it can be hard to make a well-researched, thoughtful decision based on the best price of a furnace replacement in an emergency. There are different things that affect the price of a new furnace. Here are things to consider to help you make the best choice when choosing a new furnace.

Different furnaces have various features– Consider what your priorities are and weigh your options. Some furnaces are basic and others have more advanced features to make them more convenient and cost-effective. Another feature some furnaces have is a variable speed blower. This function has different fan speeds to help you save during days when the weather is milder. Because it allows for slower speeds, this function can make it more cost-effective by running the fan when the furnace itself isn’t running. This creates improved indoor air circulation. Some furnaces have a modulating gas valve which allows furnaces to operate at partial power when possible to save energy and money.

Size matters– Each home requires a proper sizing of the furnace unit. This is determined by a complex formula that requires a professional and trained HVAC technician. There are various factors that are involved in this calculation, including the home size, insulation, electrical supply availability, and more. Larger furnaces are more expensive. A proper calculation is important in determining the required furnace size. Having an unnecessarily large furnace can result in higher upfront costs and increased operating costs.

Brand– There are various brands of furnaces. It’s important to do your research and compare prices along with the various factors already mentioned. Top-rated brands cost more and HVAC pros usually charge more to install these because of their association with higher-end brands and increased experience result in premium prices.

Installation costs– It is always recommended that furnaces are installed by a trained professional. Labor costs for furnace installation vary depending on your location and the HVAC professional performing the installation.

Gas or electric? Gas furnaces are the most commonly used furnaces, especially in areas that endure harsh winters. Electric furnaces tend to operate at a higher efficiency. However, they are often more expensive to operate and are more common where temperatures usually do not drop below freezing. Electric furnaces are usually the cheapest way to go in terms of initial costs because they don’t require special venting, fuel pipes or storage tanks.

Efficiency– Energy-efficient units usually have a higher price tag but cost less to operate, ultimately saving the homeowners money.

It’s good to know that a home needs to be properly sized before choosing the size of the furnace. I didn’t know that insulation could also have an impact on the size of the furnace you choose, like you said. It sounds like I’ll definitely need to hire a contractor to do an evaluation first, then choose the furnace.
